Vice-President Kashim Shettima has departed Abuja for New York to represent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
According to Stanley Nkwocha, the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communications to the Vice President, Shettima will deliver Nigeria’s national statement during the high-level general debate.
The session runs from Monday, September 22 to Sunday, September 28, 2025. On the agenda are multiple side events and bilateral meetings dealing with climate action, housing, and sustainable development.
One key highlight: Nigeria plans to announce its updated Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement at a UN climate summit event during the Assembly.
After concluding engagements in New York, Shettima is scheduled to travel to Frankfurt, Germany, for meetings with officials of Deutsche Bank before returning to Nigeria.
