Global Rich List Turns Upside Down, Elon Musk No Longer At The Top

Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, is no longer the world’s richest person after being overtaken on September 10, 2025.

The man who surged past him is Larry Ellison, co-founder and chairman of Oracle, whose net worth jumped to around $393 billion after Oracle’s stock skyrocketed on the back of massive AI-driven cloud deals. Musk’s fortune, meanwhile, stands at about $384 billion, pushing him into second place.

The Bloomberg Billionaires Index shows Ellison’s leap was powered by Oracle’s record earnings and expanding dominance in artificial intelligence infrastructure. The company’s strong contracts with firms like OpenAI and SoftBank added billions to his wealth in a matter of hours.

Musk, who held the number one spot for over a year, still has a chance to reclaim it. Analysts say Tesla’s pending compensation package could push him closer to becoming the world’s first trillionaire.

For now, Ellison’s rise and Musk’s slip mark one of the most dramatic shifts in modern wealth history.
