Military operations paying off, North-East more peaceful — Army

The Nigerian Army has declared that the North-East region is now more secure than in previous years, citing the success of sustained military operations against insurgent groups.

According to a statement by the Director of Army Public Relations, Maj. Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, and obtained by Lens News, the Army attributed the improved security situation to intensified clearance operations, increased collaboration with local communities, and better coordination among security agencies.

Maj. Gen. Nwachukwu stated that insurgent activities have been largely degraded, with many camps dismantled and dozens of fighters surrendering in recent months. He noted that normalcy is gradually returning to previously troubled areas, allowing displaced persons to return to their ancestral homes.

“The North-East is significantly more stable now. Our troops have maintained aggressive patrols, blocked escape routes of terrorists, and restored confidence among residents,” he said.

The Army spokesman also assured that military operations would continue until total peace is achieved across the region, emphasizing the importance of intelligence gathering and community support in consolidating recent gains.

Lens News learnt that Operation Hadin Kai, the military’s main counterinsurgency campaign has been restructured to focus on precision strikes, intelligence-based raids, and air-ground synergy, ensuring more efficient operations.

Local officials in Borno and Yobe States also confirmed to Lens News that markets, schools, and major highways have reopened in several areas once held by insurgents, a development credited to sustained military pressure.

While acknowledging the progress, the Army cautioned against complacency, urging citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements to security agencies.

“The fight is not yet over, but Nigeria is clearly winning,” the statement concluded.
