Police dismantles 11-member robbery gang terrorizing motorists in Katsina

The Katsina State Police Command has successfully dismantled an 11-member armed robbery syndicate responsible for terrorizing motorists along the Sha’iskawa-Charanchi and Katsina-Kankia-Kano highways.

Lens News learnt that the suspects, aged between 21 and 35, were apprehended following a coordinated intelligence-led operation. One of the gang members was intercepted while attempting to dispose of stolen items, leading police to the rest of the syndicate.

Recovered from the suspects were 80 wristwatches, nine mobile phones, and a knife, all believed to have been stolen from motorists during their operations.

The Commissioner of Police in Katsina State, Mr. Bello Shehu, commended the officers for their swift action, noting that the arrest would go a long way in restoring public confidence in the safety of highways. He further urged the public to cooperate with security agencies by providing timely information on suspicious activities.

According to Vanguard, the syndicate had been responsible for multiple attacks on travelers, causing panic along major routes. The police have reassured residents that similar operations will continue to neutralize criminal networks in the state.

“This arrest demonstrates our commitment to securing lives and property, particularly on critical transport corridors,” Shehu said.

The operation has been widely praised by security analysts as a significant step toward curbing armed robbery and highway crime in northern Nigeria.
