Broadcaster Aliyu Getso dies in Kano

Veteran broadcaster and journalist Aliyu Abubakar Getso passed away on Sunday morning in Kano State after a prolonged illness, family sources have confirmed.

Getso’s death was announced by his daughter, who said the veteran media figure had been battling health issues for some time. According to reports, the funeral prayer (Janazah) is scheduled to hold later today at his residence in the Janbulo (Second Gate, Kabuga) area of Kano City.

Over a distinguished career, Getso worked with several prominent radio outfits, including Kano State Radio Corporation, Freedom Radio, Premier Radio, and Vision FM. Colleagues and media watchers praised his professionalism, calm demeanor, and deep experience in broadcast journalism.

Lens News gathered that Getso is survived by three wives, multiple children, and grandchildren. Among mourners, many recalled his influence on younger broadcasters and his dedication to upholding journalistic standards.

His passing has elicited condolences from across Nigeria’s journalistic community, many describing the loss as a heavy blow to broadcasting in the north.
