I Can Only Get Worried If Tinubu Questions My Performance – Wike

The drama in Abuja took another twist after the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, openly declared that he has only one boss to please — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Speaking during an official event in the capital on Sunday, Wike dismissed critics, saying their opinions do not shake him one bit. “The only time I will get worried is if President Tinubu questions my performance,” he said, leaving no doubt where his loyalty lies.

Wike’s remark came amid growing scrutiny of his stewardship in the FCT, where he has faced both praise and criticism for his aggressive style of governance. But the former Rivers governor appeared unfazed, making it clear that public noise or media chatter does not move him. “If Tinubu is satisfied, that’s enough for me,” he insisted, doubling down on his belief that the president’s verdict is the only judgment that matters.

Beyond politics, Wike also used the platform to send a stern message to contractors working on projects across Abuja. He warned that any contractor found colluding with civil servants to cut corners will face severe consequences. “I won’t tolerate people who want to cheat the system,” he said, a statement that sparked whispers among the audience about who his words were really directed at.

Observers say Wike’s comments reflect both his political calculation and survival instinct. By aligning his fate directly with Tinubu’s approval, he shields himself from other sources of accountability. But critics argue that this stance could sideline the role of citizens and institutions meant to hold leaders responsible. For now, however, Wike seems unbothered. His message is loud and clear: only one man’s opinion matters.
