The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the Oyo State Police Force have entered a partnership aimed at bolstering disaster response and increasing preparedness across the state.
LensNews gathered that the collaboration will focus on training, communication, and resource coordination. Police officers will receive training in disaster assessment, rescue operations, and first aid. Meanwhile NEMA will lead efforts on early warning systems and mobilisation of relief materials.
Officials said response units from both agencies will conduct joint drills in flood-prone and disaster-vulnerable communities to improve coordination during actual emergencies. Local governments will also be involved in the readiness exercises.
The partnership is part of broader state efforts to mitigate the impact of climate-linked disasters and reduce loss of life and property from rainstorms, floods, and other emergencies.
